Young Artists’ Place is hiring a part-time Art Instructor to teach art classes for children ages 5 - 16. We’re looking for someone who can start in April or May 2025.

This is a great fit for you if:

  • You love the stability of a job, but still want time in your week to work as a practicing artist.

  • You can roll with the high energy and spontaneity of working with children.

  • You’re a versatile artist who doesn’t just do “one thing” - you can confidently draw in a range of art styles from anime to realism, and materials ranging from soft pastels to acrylic paints.

  • You find it rewarding to share your knowledge and enthusiasm for art!

Young Artists’ Place is an owner-operated studio located in Burnaby, BC. You’ll be joining our small team of 3 art instructors. You can get a sense of the types of classes you’ll be teaching by taking a look at our class offerings. All our classes are in-person, so you must be comfortable with working on-site.

  • Saturdays 10:30am - 6:30pm (8 hrs)

  • You may occasionally be asked to work additional shifts if our other instructors are sick or away. You must be open to working on weekday evenings and weekends, as that’s when our classes run.

During the summer season (July - August):

  • Monday - Friday 4 hour shifts, morning or afternoon

Note that the studio is closed 8 weeks per year, scheduled roughly in line with the Burnaby school calendar:

  • March: 2 weeks for spring break

  • June: 1 week at the end of the school year

  • August: 2 weeks at the end of summer break

  • December/January: 3 weeks for winter break

In a typical day at the studio, you first spend some quiet time preparing your lessons and making sample art. Then you teach 2-5 art classes in a day. Finally, you close up by vacuuming and cleaning the studio.
