Students will learn how to use professional drawing and painting software to create illustrations on the computer from start-to-finish. Perfect for students who are interested in anime, illustration, or comics, and who already have a good grasp of drawing fundamentals. We'll hone our drawing skills during the lessons as well, so that you not only learn how to use the digital tools, but also how to use colour and form to create a solid work of art.
No prior experience with digital art is needed. Beginners and intermediate digital artists are welcome, and all styles of expression are respected and welcome here, whether you're an anime artist, a cartoonist, or a digital painter.
I recommend using Paint Tool SAI to learn the basics of digital art. It's a more intuitive (and more affordable) program than Photoshop, but many of the principles we learn will transfer over to Photoshop, as well as most other drawing and painting programs.
The studio is equipped with a large screen computer, and the newest pen tablet from Wacom. Students may also bring in their own laptops and equipment if they prefer their own setup.
The following options are available for ongoing art classes:
Sometimes I hold themed group courses that run for a set number of weeks. Up to 8 students can enroll in each group course. Schedules will be posted here.
Digital Art for Beginners: This 6-week course will introduce students to the basics of working with digital illustration software. The course covers tools and layers, drawing with a pen tablet, best practices for file setup, and the step-by-step of creating a digital illustration. Students will be able to create a character illustration digitally from start to finish by the end of the course. Students must provide their own equipment.
Summer 2018 Schedule TBD. To be notified when the course is open for registration, please submit your email address through the form at the bottom of this page.
A general drawing and painting class that focuses specifically on 2D mediums. This class helps students explore subject matter that they are personally interested in, while exposing them to different types of mediums and techniques that they may not have access to on their own. We'll use inks, paints, and a variety of tools to get away from just regular pencil drawing.
Each class experience is different - I listen to what each student is interested in, and structure lesson plans around that. My goal is to help each student obtain confidence and the feeling of mastery over a variety of art tools and techniques, so that they can then use these tools to express their own artistic voice.
There are no currently no upcoming workshops. If you want to get notified when I have a new workshop available, please add your email to the mailing list at the bottom of the page!
